Reports from Jowhar, the capital of the Middle Shabelle region indicate that at least two dozens have been killed as rival clans clash in the outskirts of the city.
Witnesses told Jiinwabi.net that at least 20 people were killed in the Geedo Berkan village as a result of fighting that raged between 2 clan militias.
People who we spoke to said they were really worried as Somali government troops entered the conflict and sided with their respective clans.
Reports say that Somali Military commander name Col. Taraaweel was killed as he sided and led his clan in the conflict today.
Col. Taraaweel was one of the leading commanders of the Somali army, which took control of Jowhar from Al-shabab with the help of Amisom forces last year.
Until now no one has started any mediation efforts between the rival clan militias who have been fighting in the region recently, despite the fact that the president visited the area today to see the damages done by the flood.
This unfortunate event comes a few days after other clan militia clashes caused the death of 7 people.
The infighting between clans is often caused by rural land dispute and water wells in the region.
