AU to increase AMISOM troops in Somalia

African Union on Friday endorsed to increase AMISOM troops to Somalia, to tackle al-Shabab, al-Qaeda affiliated terror group that is threatening the horn of Africa stability.

AU has nearly 18,000 peacekeeping troops in Somalia and plans to deploy further 6,000 to support Somali government’s peace plans.

UN Secrutrity Council has to approve the AU plans of deploying further AMISOM troops in Somalia.

African Union Leaders are meeting today in Addis Ababa to discuss International Criminal Court and Somalia issues will inlcude the agenda.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will discuss African leaders in Addis Ababa to seek additional support from Africa to eliminate al-Shabab militants.

“Somalia has been fighting terrorism for several years and we must now intensify our operations in a total war against our enemies. We must deny them territory and the space to train and plan and we must ensure our military campaign is accompanied by all-out information war.” President Hassan said on his way to Addis Ababa.
