The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) outlined the successes of Djiboutian troops in Somalia Saturday (June 8th) during a public relations workshop in Djibouti, Djibouti’s La Nation reported.
Djiboutian Minister of Defence Hassan Darar Houffaneh opened the workshop, which was attended by the high command of the Djiboutian Armed Forces and French and American forces stationed in Djibouti.
The workshop outlined AMISOM’s contribution to restoring safety and security in Somalia, with an emphasis on the 960-soldier Djiboutian contingent, stationed in Beledweyne under the command of Colonel Osman Doubad.
Djiboutian troops have engaged in numerous defence operations, rebuffing al-Shabaab attacks and seizing militants’ arms, as well as in humanitarian operations such as assisting with evacuations of Somali citizens during flooding in the Hiran region.
The troops have also conducted military trainings for the Somali National Army and run rehabilitation programmes for al-Shabaab defectors.
