Somalia job for Ssimbwa

Sam Ssimbwa has been granted permission to coach the Somalia national team during this month’s CECAFA Challenge Cup.

The two week’s competition kicks off this weekend here in Kampala.

“I am pleased that my club allowed me to take this opportunity,”said Ssimbwa who started work today morning.

“It shows that the club is supportive in my growth as a coach.”

“It is always an honour to coach a national team. To many, Somalia may not have a chance of winning but they may have the chance to showcase some good football .

“I am ready to take that chance with the players and make the best of it. Good progress will be beneficial to all of us; the players and I.”

This will be Ssimbwa first role as head coach of any national team after having worked thrice as an assistant coach for the Uganda national team.

Somalia has been placed in group B alongside Tanzania, Sudan and Burundi. The Ocean Stars will play their first game on Nov. 25 against Burundi.

“I know the group we are in has good teams. But I shall not let Somalia be the whipping boys of the group.
