In a never-ending deadly threat facing Somali journalists, another radio journalist was critically wounded tonight by two armed men in Mogadishu after surviving from an assassination attempt to his life.
Mohamed Mohamud, aka Turyare, a journalist working for Radio and TV of Shabelle Media Network, was attacked on his way back home after leaving the mosque where he had Maghrib (sunset) prayers in Hawo Tako neighborhood of Wadajir district. Two men with pistols fired at the journalist and wounded him at upper part of his body.
Mohamud was immediately admitted at Madina hospital where medical doctors confirmed that he was critically wounded but his situation is stable, according to fellow journalists who took him to the hospital.
The leadership of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) has expressed dismay over the assassination attempt of Mohamed Mohamud, who is also website news editor of Radio Shabelle.
Abdi Aden Guled, Senior Vice President of NUSOJ who expressed concern over the continued insecurity of journalists’ lives in Mogadishu, noted that the assassination attempt was fatal attack. “We call on the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate Mohamud’s assassination attempt and bring the criminals to justice.”
